I have been feeling very inspired by the 60’s lately. I just graduated so thank you notes are in order, I thought it would be fun to pull inspiration from funky 60’s dress patterns!
This is a step by step tutorial on how to make these cards, have fun!
You will need: Card stock, paint brush, water colors, cup of water, plate to mix paints, paper towel.
DRESS INSPIRATION 1:
I love the pattern of this dress! So fun and funky, these colors are the epitome of the 1960’s!
First you need a black marker.
On the card, I drew the simple outlines of flowers, pulling inspiration from the pattern.
Paint the tulip with a vivid magenta.
Paint the flower centers with orange.
Paint the daisy a dark yellow.
Paint the little daisies a burnt orangish red, SO sixties.
Paint all the leaves green, putting dots of green other laces as well.
Color in the THANKS black, it does not stand out enough hollow.
Now have fun choose any color, I chose dark yellow and with semi watery paint, create loose flower like shapes filling empty spots!
DRESS INSPIRATION 2:
I loved this print because although very 60’s, the black and white with bright pops is right on trend!
Put a piece of tape on the middle of your card.
With the same black marker draw lines in groups, ranging from think to thick.
Just pressing the brush tip to base in a flower formation, make yellow daisies
Using the same technique with blue paint, create smaller clusters of daisies.
Add leaves where ever your please
Add magenta flowers and give the yellow daisies centers.
give the blue daisies yellow centers.
Add black accents around all the flowers centers
Add greenery in empty spaces.
Write thank you in that empty gap, YAY!
DRESS INSPIRATION 2:
Ok, I know this one is a little different than the pattern but how was I supposed to refrain from using magenta with a giant pitcher of peonies in my face?
See, I had too.
Tape it again.
Loosely fill the spaces with watered down blue and green paint.
If its to watery and dark, dab it. I like this look because it allows the other colors to show through.
Add dark green leaves where ever you please, as well as magenta dots in clusters of four, and magenta petals scattered.
Write thank you, and draw some black daisies!
Now tie them up and save them for a rainy day, you never know when you will need to say thank you, plus anything homemade is extra special.
